  1. Amplitude modulation (AM)
  2. A method user to impress information signals on a sine wave by varying
  3. its strength according to patterns by the information signals.
  4. Analog transmission
  5. The transmission of information by means of a continuously varying
  6. electrical signal.
  7. Carrier
  8. A continuous frequency signal that is modulated by the patterns
  9. produced by a separate information signal.
  10. Bit
  11. The smallest element of a computer code which given a numerical value
  12. of either 1 or 0. A single electrical pulse in a group of pulses.
  13. Baseband signaling
  14. The transmission of an analog signal at its original frequency. The
  15. direct transmission of unmodulated digital pulses over a comm. line.
  16. Asynchronous transmision
  17. A method of transmitting computer data one character at a time. The
  18. length of time between character is variable.
  19. Attenuation
  20. A reduction in the strength of an electrical signal that occurs during
  21. transmission
  22. bps (bits per second)
  23. The measurement of the rate at which digital information signals are
  24. transmitted.
  25. Address
  26. Any goup of bits that identifies a network node as a separate,
  27. identifiable location.
  28. Bandwidth
  29. The range of frequencies of an electromagnetic energy form measured
  30. from the lowest to the highest frequencies.
  31. Broadband link
  32. A transmission channel with a wide frequency range that is divided into
  33. separate communication channels.
  34. Bisync
  35. A common name for Binary Synchronous Communications Control, a half-
  36. duplex communications line.
